Courses in German language and culture are followed by two weeks of intensive project work in groups of German and US students. Subject areas include: Process, Energy, Environmental, Material, or Food Technology; Bioengineering. Program concludes with targeted excursions related to the projects and discussions of the groups' work.

    SENSE – Science and Engineering Summer Experience in Braunschweig

    Host: Technische Universitaet Braunschweig
    Dates: June 9 - July 18, 2008
    SENSE offers a 6-week summer program with a modular structure which meets the individual needs of participants with various academic backgrounds in science and engineering. In the two weeks, students have language training and cultural immersion. After that, students choose from a flexible assortment of modules in mechatronics and microtechnology, advanced biology, independent study, internship or practical lab work. Applicants should have completed their Junior year, and be majoring in mechanical or electrical engineering, computer science or biosciences.

    Internships in Engineering in Hannover and Clausthal

    Host: Leibniz Universitaet Hannover and Clausthal University of Technology
    Dates: June 2 - July 25, 2008
    This program offers students the opportunity to carry out an individual study or research project in engineering at one of the two renowned German host universities. Each student will be matched with a supervisor in a research lab or institute and will be integrated into the research team. The academic aspect of this unique program will be enhanced by an introduction week, regular meetings and follow-up sessions with supervisors and fellow participants. An interesting cultural program will complement the academic work, and German student Study Buddies will help participants settle in.

    International Summer Program for Automotive Engineering Technologies

    Host: University of Duisburg-Essen
    Dates: June 2 - August 8, 2008
    This 10-week program combines theoretical classes, hands-on experiments and visits to core German automotive companies with an opportunity to complete internships after the summer program. A 2-week intensive language course is followed by a 1-week lecture program on automotive engineering technology. Next, each student selects a 5-week research project relevant to cutting-edge technologies in the field. The program concludes with a week of structured visits to leading German industries to provide further insights into automotive engineering practices.
  • Program cost: 3,500 euros (about US$ 5,000)

    International Program in Sustainable Infrastructure - Problems, Approaches and Solutions

    Dates: June 16 - July 13, 2008
    This innovative new program focuses on the fields of sustainable development, technical aspects of infrastructure, water management and regional and environmental planning. The 4-week academic program features a number of topics within these fields, including rivers and lakes as ecosystems, water waste treatment, coping with extremes, and political and economic aspects of sustainable development. The program also includes field work, a German language course and an exciting cultural program.

    Munich Summer School of Applied Sciences

    Host: Munich University of Applied Science
    Dates: July 14 - August 14, 2008
    Juniors and Seniors in the field of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering are invited to take part in this 5-week program. A week of intensive German language instruction is followed by one of two courses in engineering: a) Thermodynamics, b) Automotive Mechatronics; plus a course in German culture. There may be additional engineering courses students can select from.     Finding Nano - Discovering Nanotechnology and Culture in Germany

    Host: Technical University of Munich
    Dates: June 15 - July 27, 2008
    TU Munich a leading university in Germany and Europe , serving as an important global player in the international world of science and technology. The summer program consists of four modules: Electronic properties of nanoengineered materials (introduction to the rapidly developing field of nanoengineered materials with a special focus on their electronic properties), Nanotechnology in Germany : Implementing Science, Research and Technology in Germany (an overview of the technological landscape of Germany ), German Language Course, and German Culture and History. The program welcomes undergraduates science and engineering students who have completed introductory solid-state physics.

    Sustainable Energy and the Environment

    Host: Trier University of Applied Sciences
    Dates: May 23 – June 23, 2008
    Learn about renewable energy resources and environmental benefits from faculty of the Environmental Campus of FH Trier in combination with the acquisition of skills vital to career success in the global community. Students will take two parallel courses: Sustainable Energy and the Environment, and Intercultural Awareness / Germany / EU. Each course will be taught in English by several German professors specializing in renewable energy and intercultural issues. A faculty member from Clemson University will accompany the program.

    International Winter University Kassel – Environmental Engineering or Video Art

    Host: University of Kassel
    Dates: December 29, 2008 - January 19, 2009
    IWU students can choose one of the following fascinating seminar programs: Environmental Engineering – Renewable Energy Sources (international climate policy, renewable energy, etc.), or Video Art – Multimedia (video installations, video in art theory, etc.). In addition, each student will enjoy an intensive German language course tailored to their language level, special workshops in German culture, and an excellent cultural and extracurricular program.
