About the Programs
DAAD is proud to support these 17 outstanding new study abroad programs at universities across Germany, all of which have been awarded the DAAD Quality Seal. These short-term programs have been singled out in a highly selective competition and reviewed in their first year of operation by a committee of distinguished study abroad professionals from the US and Germany. Additionally, they share the common characteristics of taking place during academic holidays, being discipline specific, taught in English, and incorporating a German language-learning component.
What is the DAAD Quality Seal?

Programs that bear the DAAD quality seal have been singled out in a highly selective competition among Germany's top universities. A committee of distinguished study abroad professionals from the US and Germany selected each of these programs to receive seed funding. The committee also reviews each program during its first year of operation to ensure quality.

A program with the DAAD quality seal possess the following elements of excellence:

  • Takes advantage of the particular strengths of the German educational system.
Focusing on fields like engineering, business, architecture, music, sustainability and media studies, these programs make areas of German academic expertise accessible to students like you!

  • Compact and academically rigorous.
Although they last between just three and ten weeks, these programs pack several semester credits worth of quality coursework into their schedules – yet allow enough flexibility to meet individual interests.

  • Fulfills the particular expectations and needs of American students.
These universities have built on their reputations for international student services by jointly developing these programs with US partner universities. This means the programs meet basic standards of good practice for education abroad, and arranging credit transfer back home is easier.

  • Meaningfully integrates subject course-work with German language instruction.
These programs are specifically intended to enhance undergraduate students' international capability, which is defined as the combination of language skills, international awareness, professional or technical knowledge acquired overseas, and a capability to travel and work in other countries and on multi-cultural teams.

  • No matter what your field of study or future career plans, DAAD hoped the exciting new programs featured here will inspire you to put Germany on your resume!
